City of Bones

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
I just finished City of Bones.. and I kinda have mixed feelings. The story-line is very entertaining, but there are sooo many cuss words. Which is why I will have to say goodbye. (Plus the cover is sketchy(; )

Summary from inside book cover:
"When 15 year old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York city, she hardly expects to witness a murder-- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within 24 hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know..."

To be honest, I didn't really get into the book until the 6th or 7th chapter. Then I was sucked in ;) but I was so disappointed because seriously it cussed sooo much. I don't recommend. Yes it's got an interesting story line, but it's really not worth it to read all the cussing. Not to mention it has some violence.

Rate: PG13/R
   lots & lots of cussing
GOOD OR GOODBYE?
   GOODBYE

NITTY GRITTY:
City of Bones did not use the F word, however it used just about every other word. The H, D, A, and B words.
I wouldn't read it, and if you do decide you would like to read it, I would recommend only 14/15 and up.

Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25

Michael Vey by Richsard Paul Evans
So after being told by many many people that I just HAD to checkout Michael Vey, I finally did & holy cow it was so good!!! Totally clean too!
Michael Vey has a secret, one that could endanger him. Which is why after his father's death they moved to different small towns in Idaho. But when some bullies lead him to revealing his secret & the prettiest girl at school (Taylor) gets involved, things start to get weird. Once Michael's mom & Taylor get kidnapped, Michael realizes how dangerous his "gift" can be to those he loves. Michael and his bestfriend, Ostin, set off to find Michael's mom & Taylor, enlisting the help of the former bullies Wade & Jack. But the real question is, once they get to the "school" will Michael even be able to help those he loves?

So so good! There is a tiny bit of violence, but nothing too major. I really really loved this first book of Michael Vey and cannot wait to read the next ones :)

Rate: PG/PG13
    No cuss words, small violence
GOOD OR GOODBYE?
    Definitely GOOD

NITTY GRITTY:
There are no cuss words in this book! Yayy!! There is a small amount of violence, but nothing super gory or anything. There also isn't anything sexual at all.
Beware there's about to be a spoiler alert!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

So Michael's "gift" is that he can create electricity. He can shock people, cars, phones, etc. He has lots and lots of electricity in his body. But the other kids at the "school" also have some of these powers in different forms. So there is a little violence with that.

Hunger Games

Ah, the infamous Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
While I read the series, I absolutely loved them, they captured my attention, and held it the entire series. The story line was good, there was a cute love story, honestly I really enjoyed them. However, when you really take a step back, and really look at the series for what it is, it isn't good. Yes it was very well written & very entertaining, but kids killing each other? Is that really something we should all be wanting to read about and enjoy? This is such a toughy because it is very well written, but I don't think I would recommend it. I want to recommend it because I enjoyed it, but that's the whole point of this blog. Either it's good & clean, or you need to say goodbye. It would be going against my integrity to recommend it to you.

Summary from: http://www.suzannecollinsbooks.com/works.htm
Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be North America. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

rate: PG13/R
Few cuss words, but too much violence
GOOD OR GOODBYE?
       I would say GOODBYE

NITTY GRITTY:
There are only a few cuss words, if I remember correctly, however there was just so much violence. Kids kill each other throughout the whole series.
THANK YOU FOR READING!

Variant & Feedback

Variant & its sequel Feedback by Robison Wells.

My good friend Rylan recommended these books to me, and let me tell ya, they definitely captured my attention right away!! I could not put them down! I stayed up so late to read them... bahaha.. oops. BUT I'm so depressed. I am going to have to say goodbye to them, and I will tell you why after the summary.
Benson Fisher gets a scholarship to Maxfield academy and thinks that it's going to make his life so much better. After bouncing from foster home to foster home, Benson is so ready for a steady, nice school. But when he shows up to Maxfield Academy it isn't what he expects. There are cameras everywhere, a razor wire fence, and a brick wall surrounding the fancy building. He is trapped. But there are no adults. The school is run by student gangs... However, the adults have not completely left them alone, they have given them 4 rules. And breaking the rules, means death. But as Benson comes to find out, following the rules may also mean death. Escape is his only chance, but even that is impossible.

Okay so obviously this is a different, new idea & it sounds so awesome. And it is. But.. it uses alot of cuss words. The first book, Variant, only uses a hand full of cuss words, but Feedback, the second one, uses many more. It's really so frustrating. Also they both have a lot of violence. Especially the second one. I really want to recommend these two books to you,  but I just cant. They are so good, but like I said, they do have cussing.
Rate: PG13
GOOD OR GOODBYE? GOODBYE ;((((
Ahh so stinkin sad because these are soo good! But if I were you, I would just not read them, because otherwise, you will get sucked in. They are too captivating ;) This is probably the hardest decision on this blog I have had to make. Hahah

 NITTY GRITTY:
In Variant, it uses about 7 cuss words. The H, D, and S words.
The second one, Feedback probably has like 25.. it's a lot more, same words, just more.
Honestly there is a part in the second that I would just skip because it uses so many cuss words right in a row. Pg. 25-40. Just skip it. You can email me and I can tell you what happened during that part. (If you do end up reading the book that is!)

 THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING!

The Demon King (Express Week #4)

DAY 4 OF EXPRESS WEEK!
The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima is the first book in the Seven Realms Series
So this is my most recent read that was suggested to me by Bailey Ingram, so thank you Bailey! I really enjoyed it! Boys: this is one you will enjoy!! It's not girly!! yayy!! hahah!!

It's a little bit hard to follow at first, so you have to pay attention! But its about two separate main characters. Raisa (Briar Rose) the heir to the Queendom, and Han (Hansen McAlister, Hunts Alone) the ex-street lord. Everyone has multiple names.. crazy.. hahah!! So the story starts with Han and his friend Dancer (Fire Dancer) they are going on a hunting trip, and they run into some wizards. But wizards are not allowed to be in the Clans mountains, so Dancer and Han confront the wizards. From this encounter, Han gets an amulet.
Ever since Han gets this amulet, his life keep getting crazier and crazier.
Then there's Raisa who is about to come of age--16. She will soon be open for marriage, but she doesn't want to get married right away. Raisa doesn't want to marry some prince who has "a tiny brain". Anyways, the story continues, and soon Raisa and Han's paths cross. And suddenly everyone is in more danger than they realize.
So honestly, I don't think I described this book very well... but it is really good! Like I said above it is the first book in the series, so I am really wanting to read the next few books!
Rate: PG13ish
      some cussing
GOOD OR GOODBYE?
I would say GOOD! (especially for guys)

NITTY GRITTY:
So like I said before, it does use a couple cuss words: the D word, and the H word.
Other than that it is really clean!

THANKS FOR READING!

Maximum Ride

The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson is such a great series for anyone who likes realistic fantasy/ fiction. The reason I call it realistic fantasy (that's not really a thing) is because it is in my mind fantasy. It's about 6 kids who are only half human. The are also half bird. They have wings and super human abilities, speed, strength, and of course, they can fly. But it's also somewhat realistic, I mean it's not totally far fetched. What if scientists actually could come up with something like that?!

To get more into the actual summary of the book, it's about a girl named Max. She takes care of her family, the flock. Since all 6 kids are orphans who ran away from the "school", Max is in charge at the age of 14. Why not just go back to the school? well, it's not really a school... it's an experimental building where they do tests and experiments on the flock. Not friendly ones either. The school is miserable an they can never go back. They also have to stay clear of the "Erasers". They half human- half wolf like people who are hunting them to bring them back to the school. But when Angel gets stolen and taken back to the School, Max's whole world is turned upside down.

Alright, so what's the catch? A book can't be that cool without tons of cuss words or bad stuff, right? WRONG! This book is even more awesome because there isn't a ton of cussing. okay so there is a small catch.. there is some cussing... which is why literature is so difficult... all of it now a days has cussing...
ALRIGHT, beware a rant is coming below:
(if you want to scroll down and not read the rant, now would be a good time)

Why do books need cuss words? why? The book makes total sense without the use of that word. Like it isn't needed. Why not say MACARONI or something instead of using dumb words like that?! Like you are an author, can you not think of more creative- clean words than that?
Seriously, even though most books have cuss words, I still think it's important to avoid it as much as possible, which is the whole reason I made this blog... seesh. if I ever write a book, it will be the most awesome, most clean book out there.... and someday, I'm going to create a company that edits books and changes all the cuss words to clean, funny words so that humane people can read without being offended!!!

(okay rant is over, you may continue reading)

alright, so what's the rate?
I would rate this book PG
it has some violence and some cuss words...
GOOD? OR GOODBYE?
all in all I would definitely say it is GOOD!

The Nitty Gritty for parents (or whoever):
the cuss words used in this book are the S, and A words. maybe the D word too. Ah that's so sad that the author had to add those in...

Thanks for reading!! :) Comment below :)

Uglies

Today's book review is the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield. I really enjoyed reading this book! It's dated in the future with new cool inventions that I'm like why do I not have that now? seriously some scientists need to start inventing some of this stuff ASAP!

The story is about a girl named Tally. She lives in Uglyville. A city for all the kids who are under 16 and UGLY. Tally wishes she could go to New Pretty Town with her bestfriend Peris who is already 16, but in order to move there she must get the operation on her 16th birthday. The operation to make her pretty. As she waits for her 16th birthday she meet Shay, and they become quick friends. But when Shay disappears and the city gets involved, her operation is put on hold, maybe forever. Tally learns about the old "Rusties" who almost ruined the world, and many other not so nice things about her city. The series continues on with Tally's story of her rebellion to the city and it's wrong doings.
I have only read the first two books in the series so far, but I really enjoyed both. They do have a couple cuss words in them though.... :/

I would rate this book a PG book
     due to some cussing
GOOD OR GOODBYE?
      GOOD!

the nitty gritty for parents:
the cuss words said in this book are the H and D word. also it has some drinking in the second one, if that bothers you :)
